01 / A place for your party

Less server admin.
More game night.

Someone in the group always ends up being the server person. Tavern is for them: a desktop app that brings setup, everyday controls, and recovery into one familiar workspace.

01

A setup you can actually follow

Install a new server or bring an existing one. Tavern checks what is ready, explains what is missing, and offers the next useful action.

02

The everyday controls, together

Start, stop, restart, update, and see connection details without juggling terminals, scripts, or scattered configuration files.

03

Recovery with a way forward

Backups, restore points, activity history, and plain-language diagnostics help you recover without gambling with your saves.

02 / From setup to session

Set the table in three steps.

1

Choose your game

Start fresh or point Tavern at a server and world you already have.

Minecraft: Java Edition · Palworld · Valheim · Project Zomboid
2

Follow the readiness checks

Pick the essentials. Tavern handles what it can and clearly hands off what only you can do.

Guided setup · Safe defaults
3

Start the server and invite friends

See the status, copy the join details, and keep an eye on the room from one workspace.

Local · Direct · Playit

Built for the long game

The jobs a good host shouldn't have to memorize.

Tavern is a calm control room for the life of a server—not just a big green start button.

Local by default. Tavern runs on your hardware and keeps management endpoints private. Optional services stay optional.

01

Server lifecycle

Start, stop, restart, update, or reinstall with visible progress.

02

Readiness checks

See whether the game, network, and host are ready before friends arrive.

03

Backups & restore

Create and recover backups while keeping worlds in the locations you chose.

04

Connection help

Use local network, direct connect, or an optional Playit quick-connect flow.

05

Optional Discord

Give each game its own controls and activity space for your group.

06

Useful diagnostics

Export a sanitized support bundle when something needs a closer look.

03 / The road ahead

Start with a good host.
Build a place to belong.

The path is intentionally practical: earn trust on one Windows host, add secure ways to control it, then meet your group on more devices.

Now

Make the foundation dependable

Prove the multi-game experience on real Windows hardware and keep setup, settings, recovery, backups, and upgrades understandable.

Next

Harden the games you already play

Turn real friend-group use into better reliability, deeper game-specific settings, and safer mixed-game hosting.

Later

Open the door—carefully

Add secure remote desktop control, then explore Linux, Steam Deck, mobile companions, and more games when they can be tested well.

A direction, not a deadline. Reliability comes before a longer feature list.

A few things worth knowing

Before everyone
arrives.

What does Tavern run on?+

Tavern is Windows-first and currently targets Windows 10 and 11 on x64 PCs. The game servers run on your own computer; Tavern is not a cloud-hosting service.

Which games are supported?+

The current game catalog includes Minecraft: Java Edition (beta), Palworld, Valheim, and Project Zomboid Build 42. Minecraft support is for Java Edition, not Bedrock Edition.

Do I need a Tavern account?+

No. Tavern keeps normal server operation local and does not require a Tavern account. Playit and Discord are optional and use their own accounts when enabled.

Will my worlds be deleted when Tavern updates?+

Tavern is designed to preserve saves, backups, configuration, and runtime state through updates. Game installations, saves, and backups remain in the locations selected by the server owner.

How do friends connect?+

Choose the route that fits your group: local network, direct connect through your router and firewall, or an optional Playit quick-connect setup that avoids router configuration.
